As a solo founder or indie hacker, you’ve probably heard the hype surrounding AI coding assistants. The promise of writing code faster and more efficiently is enticing, but do these tools live up to the expectations? In my experience, they often don't. Let’s break down some common myths surrounding AI coding tools and the reality behind them.

Myth 1: AI Can Replace Human Coders

Reality: AI can assist, but it can't replace the nuanced understanding that human developers bring to the table.

While AI can generate code snippets and assist with debugging, it lacks the ability to understand the broader context of what you’re building. For instance, when I tried using GitHub Copilot for a side project, it produced code that was syntactically correct but didn’t align with the overall architecture of my application.

Myth 2: AI Tools Are Always Cost-Effective

Reality: The pricing structure of AI coding tools can be misleading.

Many tools offer a "free tier" but quickly escalate in price as your usage increases. For example, while Tabnine starts free, the Pro version costs $12/month and is limited in features. If you're just starting out, these costs can add up. Here’s a breakdown of some popular AI coding tools:
